Reggie asked: I have some serious questions I need answered, here’s a lilttle background info.
I’m attending my towns community college and am working towards a degree towards music composition. I’m an advanced player in snare and bass type of things but a novice in mallets, I’ve got no problem reading music it’s just being consisistint on the mallets stuff. I’m also a novice at drum set.
My questions are: 1.) how long should I practice before I’m good to read and play drumset and mallets at an accepteble level for passing the audition???
2.) What can I expect at the audition e.g. how hard will the sight reading be, do I need to have a near perfect audition to make it.
3.) If I fail the first time can I try again until I make it.
I really want to pass the first time and I’ve even got a private tutor who’s the primary percussionist for my state orchestra. I just don’t where to start everything. Please help me.

Emily asked: I have an audition and interview tomorrow at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and I’m soooo nervous!
This is my top, favorite school, but my very first interview and audition. I don’t want to mess up or make a fool of myself! I’ve prepared my piece, but am still very nervous about the sight reading, ear training, ‘blues progression’ and stuff.
Any words of wisdom, advice, tips, and suggestions would be appreciated!!

it’s Julia!! asked: I’m thinking of applying to Creative and Performing Arts high school in Philly for instrumental music, I play guitar. Does anyone know what exactly they want you to play at the auditions?
It does say it on their website but I don’t quite understand it.
Anyone who goes to CAPA…help?
or what should I play, this is what is says:
-Instrumental Music-
The audition consists of the performance of two octaves of all the major and minor scales, a solo piece or intermediate etude, a sight-reading of a selection chosen by the audition committee, and imitations of given pitches and rhythms.
Note: Popular music will not be considered for any audition requirement. Please bring your instruments and music sheet.
