I started playing piano about 2/3 months ago, a friend of mine who has played since she was 4 or 5 years old has been helping me and working through some books with me. I also play violin, and have for 8 years, and am well grounded in music theory so I have a strong background and understanding of piano… but I am now desiring to take it on as another serious instrument.

I feel that once I read through pieces and learn them I don’t need the music anymore… but I don’t like this! Is this normal? it takes me forever to pick through a piece and get it but once I do I don’t need the music anymore… shouldn’t I be reading the music as I play? I can’t play without looking at my hands every few seconds… how can I work on these things and my reading skills and develop them?
