Hey! I know I just asked this question, but I failed to mention that I am a professional, paid singer. I do shows and have been for about a year. Ive been singing for twelve and have had many trainers and coaches. Ive been with my current one for about three years. This is kind of how I learned to play. Ive been basically forced to sight read all the music thats ever been put infront of me. I just learned how to transfer it to the piano.
Now that weve gotten that out of the way,
Hey! does this sound halfway decent? I recorded it on my iphone (horrible quality) … Ive never had piano lessons.
Should I take lessons?
Also, please check out my other youtube videos (IF YOU WANT) http://www.youtube.com/user/iwnabonbrdway
see i can play well by ear, like normal contemporary pieces that i hear everyday, i get the melody easily and put in the chords.
but when it comes to classical pieces, meaning when i have to read music someone else wrote and play by it, not missing a note or a key, i can hardly do it well at all! for example my exam pieces, or other stuff by chopin or haydn or whoever it is!
please help me. my teacher says i’m not playing up to my standard at all, that i can do better, but i some times just get fed up for practising and some times i practise Really hard and it still goes the same… and i just need to improve my sight reading, but how???
i’m 15y/o, Grade 7 in ABRSM and hoping to go to grade 8 soon.
I have been playing the piano for about five years. The problem I have is sight reading. My piano teacher said my skill is way higher than my sight reading. It is not that I can’t play the piano. I have played the real version of Alla Turca by Mozart. I love playing the piano! I just feel that I am not going to get anywhere in music if I do not improve this one issue. If you have any suggestions please answer. I desperately want to be a better pianist.
i’m 15 and took both Yamaha and ABRSM course before and now i’m only on ABRSM grade 7.
however, i have a friend who is just the same but she can’t play anything by ear at all, it’s like she has to has a precise sheet music and play from that (her sight-reading’s so good though). she doesn’t understand how i can play without a score and i don’t know how to explain. the melody simply comes naturally, so do the chords. i just thought it’s really simple and anybody should be able to do it, especially when you’re in grade 7.
i always thought it’s really common for anybody to hear, say, “somewhere over the rainbow” and play it on the piano straightaway, putting in chords and variations, the way i do. i don’t understand why everybody’s so impressed by me, i mean, i’m used to doing it. is it really that rare a skill?
basically i just listen to a song, be it Hero or Yesterday Once More or anything and i’m able to plot the sound on the piano and put in chords. i play the chords like we usually do in Canon in D. i can’t play classical pieces by ear though.
can you do that too? do you know anybody else who does?
