Alexis asked: I’m a 16 year old, aspiring musician, particularly in voice. One of my weaknesses is sight singing. I can easily sight sing through the basics. I just have trouble with reading different keys, my mind seems to go into a panic when I see different key signatures other than C Major, G Major, and F Major. (I don’t know what it is, but I hate flats). I’ve always been self-taught, I learned most of the basics in elementary and middle school since I was a band student (I play Bb clarinet, I’m self-taught piano). In choir class, I don’t get to work much with sight singing, and when we do get into it, it is just too easy. It’s all in C major, and there are barely any skips. Does any one know of any great sight singing practice books (with a CD obviously, because it wouldn’t really help without one) and Music Theory books (as it would be nice to get to understand what I’m singing and how it all works)???

Tobi asked: I have been playing the clarinet for about 3 years and i am now in the symphonic band at school. The music has gotten way harder and i always fail at sight-reading. Our band teacher told us to internally subdivide, but i seem to have trouble doing it. I cant seem to count while playing music, except when it’s really slow. Is there any way i can internally subdivide while playing?

no homicide before the holidays♥ asked: I’m attending a Fine Arts Camp this summer for the Bb clarinet, and apparantly I have to do an audition. What it says on the sheet is:
“…Music auditions consist of several major scales, a chromatic scale the full range of the instrument, and sight-reading.”
What scales are most likely going to be in the audition, and a bigger problem is I need a site that will help me with the chromatic scale. What does it mean by “the full range of the instrument:”? where can I find the fingerings? Please help me?!
Gah I’ve played the instrument from 2 years, but I’m in middle school and they don’t teach the -really- high notes. Plus I can barely play on a 3 1/2 reed, which would make it very hard to reach the notes above C (thumb+register key)
–second answerer, you are NO help at all. Thanks
Sorry I’m so worried, just I didn’t expect the “full range” thing, I don’t know the full range, I think I’m missing like 5 notes from it. I’ll try what you guys are telling me. Thank you!
