How should I improve Piano playing skills/reached plateau (intermediate level)?
Hello everyone!
I’ve been playing the piano on and off since I was six and now I’m in my early twenties. I consider myself to be intermediate in my piano ability. Also I’m recognized to have passed up to the 5th level in the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music. However, right now, I feel as though I’ve reached a plateau as far as my current ability. Because of this plateau I’ve been discouraged from taking piano lessons and instead focused more on other things.
Now that I’m graduating from college, I would like to dedicate my time towards the piano again, but I’m afraid that I’ll never surpass that wall into advanced intermediate piano playing. My ultimate goal is to play pieces like “Revolutionary” by Chopin but I’m trying to tell myself that its not a dream.
Has anyone been in that situation, or have some advice on how to overcome this plateau. Is it that I need to take more time to practice scales than I do to practice songs? Do I need to try and improve my sight reading? Do I need to buy more piano theory books and exercises?
Thanks!!!
