my parents bought me lessons for a couple years when i was a kid, and those lessons served me well, but i cant afford formal training anymore. one thing i really want to learn is to sight read, which my teacher never taught me. it was all technique and studies and learning pieces that i eventually memorized, so i never really learned to sight music.

It’s not only hard, but my stomach starts to churn, i feel a sense of rage… like i want to go break a few dishes and scream at the top of my lungs. i get flushed… sometimes shaky… and heartburn.

I’ve improved my sight reading substantially over the last year. however, i also have become unable to drink coffee on the same day as i play piano… or play piano without eating.

I feel like this sort of frustration is common. how do you deal with your frustration? how do you stay sane, yet still do the dirty work of improving your piano sight reading skills?

I am taking Grade 8 Piano exam this year and I ‘m not in the mood to practice. Any advice ?
I m taking Piano Grade8 exam this year ( ABRSM) and I m not in the mood to practice. I get bored playing the same 3 pieces and scales and arpeggios over and over again that I lose focus and I really dont know what to be aiming for when I m practicing right now.
I played my scales and arpegios plus some other studies but I am now getting bored playing the same pieces over and over again I just dont know what to do to maintain my focus and not sound so mechanical when I m playing.
How do you overcome boredom ?
Anyone out there facing the same problem ? how do I break the monotony of practise sessions and fall in love with my music again ?
I really need to practise , to keep my fingers warm and flexible.
I m really scared of my piano exams.
Just how much practise is enough and how do you determine how much time you need to cover all scales, arpeggios, rhythms, sight reading, aural, studies, and exam pieces and technical difficulties ?
And how to pass music exams ?

Any advice about jazz bass?

da bass playa asked:

I’m in high school jazz band, and this is my second year in jazz band and playing the bass. I’ve learned a hard song before but this year the music got harder. I’m pretty good at just sight reading a walking bass line and if I work really hard I can usually get a harder rhythm or a latin jazz tune. Auditions are next week and I’m the only bass player but my band teacher is probably going to have me audition anyway. Do you have any ideas of how to learn the song quickly but accurately? I have been playing these songs for about a week now but I just can’t seem to get them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you’re not a bassist you can still answer this question about how you learn music and give me some ideas!!!
Thanks!

What are some career paths for me to take in music?

I am looking for some advice in music careers. I just want to know about some of the options i have. I am attending year 9 in Melbourne, Australia and am 15 years old.
I have played piano for 6 years, currently in practicing for grade 5 exams. Basically i would really appreciate some outlook on my future as a musician. Being a concert pianist would be a very fulfilling job as it is basically performing for a living. I like the idea as it doesn’t require any song writing(i really am not creative). I have done some research and i have read that you would need a lot of theory skill and when it comes to theory and reading a whole piece of music in 5 minutes and understanding it all that doesn’t look very easy. I think i am more of a good-ear kind of musician and i am willing to practice and study theory. But the thing i am worried about is the fact that it might be too late for me to study theory and sight reading completely. Keeping in mind im not completely blind on theory i have gotten straight B+s in my last exams, apart from last year. Also i am very curious on how i am meant to cram heaps of study on music theory and complete some weekly homework assignments as well. I just would like some insight on how it is actually possible because the only thing stopping me is my motivation and confidence levels. It just seems like it is too much to handle

Any Help is Appreciated.
