thedood52 asked:

I was searching around for great music theory books, and I found this series of books by Eric Taylor called “music theory in practice” but I don’t know which book to get, because they’re organized into grades, probably meant for the use of a music theory student studying for exams, and since I’m not a student and can’t afford a class I don’t know which one I should get. Here’s what I know:
I have a basic understanding of the diatonic modes and how they are used both in jazz and other music
I can read the neutral clef (for drums), the treble clef, bass clef, and the grand staff
I understand how major triads, minor triads, augmented, diminished, sixths, major sevenths, sevenths, minor sevenths, dominant sevenths, ninths, add9s, add11s, suspended2s, and suspended4 chords are all created from scales.
I have used the following time signatures before:
14/16
7/8
9/8
8/8
4/4
2/4
3/4
6/4
5/4
7/4
6/8
13/16
12/16
9/3
10/3
6/3
9/6
12/6
And I’ve experimented with using 5 and 7 as the bottom number, I’m not sure if that’s an original idea or not but if you have a way to count it its actually pretty easy. I can’t actually remember all of the time signatures I’ve used but those I’ve listed are off the top of my head and probably the ones I use most frequently.
I know all about keys (both major and minor), but suck at figuring out key signatures, if that makes sense
I know the pentatonic scales and blues scale
I’ve read about very exotic scales but don’t use them very well
I’m not a great sight reader on any instrument except for the drums, but I do know how I am supposed to read the other clefs.
I play guitar, bass, drums, and although I’m very inexperienced at piano I’ve tried it. I also sing but I have a horrible voice.
Okay so with that information of what I know so far, can you suggest which book I should start with? Sorry about the large wall of text.

how to sight read music

If you are even thinking, “should I buy a pedalboard?”, then the system you have now must not be working. Pedalboards eliminate the hassle of searching for pedals, wires, sound disorders, and power sources. Having these things all in one place, all on one board can make playing in shows much more efficient. The search for the right one can be simple. Just knowing what to look for is the first step in the right direction.

When buying a pedalboard there a few options that need to be taken into consideration. These are size of the board, price range, company name, and personal need.

Do the necessary research and this investment will be well worth it. Meet your personal needs. Look into different companies and retailers.

A consumer needs to decide what size board they need. At a minimum, most guitarists want and need availability to distortion, volume, and a power supply all in one. Most pedal boards on the market start off this simple and can get much more complex. It is about need and results. Consider the size and weight. Keep in mind this pedal board will need to travel to different shows.

Price is often an issue when buying a pedalboard. Try not to look only for name brands. The more well known the company, the higher the price will be. Music is not about name brands. It is about moving an audience with the sounds of the band. Go try the pedal boards out. See if it is comfortable to use and produces the right sounds and distortion. Name brands will not get you auditions, amazing sound will.

Just as in any other investment, research is an important component in finding the right pedalboard. Looking online and browsing through magazines can help. This is a good way to find out about the integrity of retailers and companies. It is imperative to talk to the clients of these companies before a purchase. They will be able to clue you in on technical issues that came up for them while using the board. Companies and retailers will not give this inside information.

Eliminating stress is key to being a successful musician. The right pedalboard can help to achieve less stressful situations and better auditions. There are many things to think about before buying one. The choice is an individual one. This product offers easier transportation, organized pedal systems, and a cleaner look. All of these factors lead to less stress and a better performance. A musician who makes fewer mistakes is a more desirable one.

The answer to the looming question, “should I buy a pedalboard?” leads to more questions. The answers are available. Keep an open mind and the answers will be available. The more calm you remain, the more successful you can be as a buyer and a musician.

Buying a guitar effects pedalboard will help to better your musical career. Find out more information about the Pedaltrain PT2 by checking a review site.

This respected group, well known throughout the tri-state area, was frequently invited to sing for special occasions. It was a well-run disciplined organization, where a member learned how to sight read music and how to present herself in public. The rules were strict; members could not wear makeup, jewelry, short skirts or pants. They couldn’t dance or go to worldly parties. Weekly activities were mandatory. Wednesday night prayer, Friday night service, Saturday during the day was door to door street witnessing, Youth Rally was held on Saturday night, and on Sunday it was all day church. Our lives were centered around each other; we did everything as a group even dating. The training was strict but invaluable. So it was with great pride that I was able to join this exciting singing …

How to Sight Read Music

A lot of the time music software is overpriced because of features that you’re never going to need. Most of them are developed for full recording studios, so they contain things that you can’t supply at home anyway, which really end up being just useless features. Why pay more when DUBturbo is so much less?

Most of the time you run into two problems with music software. It’s either going to be really demanding for you to learn how to use. Or it’s going to be really demanding and require a really high end PC.

But then it’s going to do you one further as well. In addition to all these good features, you’re also going to find that it can literally generate music as well. That means you’ll be able to create music out of nothing, even if you can’t play any instruments yourself.

But another huge advantage that few give credit for with this software, is that it enables you to to record on literally any type of computer. No matter how much power you have or don’t have, you can record with this software.

One of the advantages of this program over other types, is the music generation system. This is one of the easiest ways to generate music without having to record, and totally from scratch.

However, not everybody can play an instrument. They take a ton of expertise to nail down, and they also take a ton of practice. That means putting in the hours, or else you’re never going to reap the rewards with your playing.

But DUBturbo can split the difference for you, as this software is basically built to teach you how to make music, without being able to play an instrument. Through it’s unique interface you can make custom beats and also add in custom sound clips.

That means you can develop a fully featured song from point A to point B, without ever having to strum a guitar or do anything else yourself. That’s the biggest bonus, and what sets this software apart from most.

Browse significantly more of this author’s ideas with regards to dubturbobeat.org.

I’m one of those types who don’t even need to know much about the band to go see them play, because I just love rock and roll that much. I have turned my love of rock into a career by writing magazine reviews of local shows. Since I’ve been going to shows for a long time, I know all of the ins and outs…and what is “in” right now, are cool t-shirts.

One of the major taboos of going to a rock show is wearing a band shirt of the band you’re going to see. Nothing shouts “lame” like being a complete fan boy. It’s a contradictory statement, because almost everyone there is a fan of the band. You want to be cooler than the typical fan boy, but you can’t show up naked. That’s where the cool t-shirts come into play.

The way these kids are competing against one another is disheartening and pretty ridiculous. I’ve never seen young people quite so engaged in finding the best cool t-shirts to outdo one another. Offensive shirts, funny shirts, artful shirts: all of them make an appearance as these kids jockey for position.

Of course, I was just as guilty at that age of using clothes to fit in at these shows. I would sometimes go to two or three rock shows a week, and I would dress according to whatever music I was going to see. Leather at the metal shows, hemp at the jam band shows, and boots at the punk shows. If there had been somewhere demanding cool t-shirts to fit in, I would have been there too.

I grew up and matured, of course. I learned that it’s the depth of your character that is important, and not the clothes you wear. I wonder if these kids will grow up to realize that the cool t-shirts they cultivated so fervently don’t mean quite as much as they thought. I also wonder if they will judge the generation that comes after them as severely as I’ve judged them. I surely hope not.

Ben asked:

I am in my 3rd year at uni. I am doing composition, and I am doing well. Yet I am not exactly the best pianist on earth (I can read music, but I am a slow sight reader), and it takes me ages to get a piece right, unfortunately sometimes I lack motivation to learn a piece, so I just improvise. However, my lecturer says I am developing as a composer, and even he admits that he’s not the best viola player. My friend, who also composes, plays a few instruments, but admits she doesn’t play any of them really well. So, do you have to be a virtuoso musician in order to compose?

How to Sight Read Music
