Types Of Guitars

I guess that every music person dreamed of seeing himself or herself playing a musical instrument. Playing guitar as a hobby is an accessible and beautiful occupation. But before starting your guitar lessons you should know something about guitars.

The most famous guitar type is the acoustic guitar. All guitars are usually made of timber, although there are new guitar models made of polycarbonate. Guitars have usually six nylon strings and they can be played using a pick (short for plectrum) or by finger. There are three main guitar types, classified by the amplification procedure: acoustic, electric and electric-acoustic guitars.

The acoustic guitars have a resonating chamber as a result of their hollow body. This is a distinctive feature from other guitar types and it is also the source of profound and pleasant sound produced. This is why acoustic guitars rarely need an amplifier. Such accessory is used especially if they are played in large rooms, which do not have a good acoustic effect. Depending on the type of strings, acoustic guitars are divided in steel-string or classical acoustic guitars. The steel-string guitars are used for playing rock or country music and are named also ‘flat top’. Classical acoustic guitars have nylon strings and wide necks.

Fender Stratocaster and Gibson Les Paul are the inventors of the most famous electric guitar models. Electric guitars are used for playing rock, pop, blues and jazz music. This guitar types have solid body, unlike acoustic ones, thinner strings, positioned closer to the guitar’s neck, making them easier to manipulate. The sound produced by the electric guitars depends on the shape of guitar’s body. The amplifier is very important for the quality of sound of electric guitars, regardless of the fact they are played at home or in concerts.

Electric-acoustic guitars are a result of the wish to preserve the sound of acoustic guitars on stage concerts, for example. These are a mixture between the hollow body of acoustic guitars and the stable sound quality of electric guitars.

Depending on the string type and number, we can further divide the guitars into steel-string guitars, nylon strings or twelve-string guitars. The classical guitars have nylon strings, but steel string guitars may be either acoustic or electric guitars. The twelve-string guitars have the normal six-string set doubled by a copy of the usual six strings, but which are one octave higher, in order to amplify the sound. Steel guitars are usually played horizontally; strings are plunked with one hand while the other hand is used for changing the pitch of strings, handling the Steel.

The quality and features of the sound are extremely important when playing music. This is why the instruments diversified and the accessories appeared – to preserve and increase the quality of sound. Choose to improve your music instrument performance by using amplifiers, microphones and guitar effects pedals.

How hard is it to get accepted into Phillips Academy?

Brian asked:

I found out about Andover and Exeter quite late. I have heard of these schools before and known them to be prestigious boarding schools. The information disclosed was that these boarding schools were quite expensive. However, I was not aware of the financial aid from the private high schools.

I was a laid-back person. I would never have homework no matter how much was assigned. I was easily able to finish 4 subjects of homework in their own classes respectively. I am naturally smart and do not study often. I manage to get 95+ scores on all tests without studying because of my great ability to listen, and memorize.

I never tried extracurricular programs because I did not think them useful at a elementary level. Also, they were not offered. After, I researched about people chancing into Andover and Exeter, to my dismay, people who got perfect scores on all their academics and SSATs still did not get accepted.
Now I realized that not only will I need extracurricular programs at a younger age to improve your resume to get accepted, but give a foundation to talents.

I need some advice on what extracurricular programs I can choose.
Sports:
I have developed a great interest in Basketball. I have a virtuous reason to play. (It was because the coach at the try-outs were racist and picked all the black kids to play first and the asians to play last. I want to show them that Asians can OWN!). Our school’s basketball season is over.

I use to be aqua-phobic. I wasn’t scared of drinking water, but scared of getting in it. After joining the YMCA, I learned how to swim with help and confidence from my sister. I am learning the other 3 strokes. I am quite fast at swimming. However, our undefeated school’s season, is over. Our 4 year old varsity swimming team has retired an undefeated swimming streak.

I am a fast runner, and could do the distance. I am going to try out for track and field, and cross country.
That concludes my sports.

Music:
I have played piano for a year, but I developed sight reading very well. At a moderato tempo, and with a second try, I can play most songs. (For most musicians, it takes at least a few years to get sight reading down.)
I tried saxophone for a few months.
I like listening to classical music, because it is less distracting towards my work.

Clubs:
Not many clubs are offered in our school because our school is young and is establishing curricular knowledge. A science club was recently started and I am going to give it a try. I am also going to join the junior key club.

Academics:
I get all A+’s. Our schools curriculum is very well written and challenging. All though my school is not famous, it is still a great feat to obtain A+’s. It is listed as one of the best in Massachusetts.
The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School was ranked as the 10th best International Baccalaureate High School. Once again I stress that our school has only been here for 11 years! and high school 4!
I do pretty well at writing, but am always looking for improvement. (Please do tell me my weaknesses in this article)
I represented the school in the annual public speaking competition.
I am well behaved, and never miss school. 1 day of absence in the last 4 years.

Interests:
I like doing puzzles, I would spend a few hours to do a puzzle.
I like finding various talents, I can blow spit bubbles from my tongue, or juggle.
I also like playing with the rubik’s cube. I can solve it, but I have a poor time of 1:15 average.

For teacher recommendations:
This year, 7th grade, I have teachers that I would favor over the 8th grade teachers. I am afraid of my teachers not recognizing me as well next year so should I ask them for a recommendation before the end of this school year?

Thanks. please wish me good luck.
Oh yea, I also have a great interest in geography.

I participated it 4 years in a row. :) 5th year I am going to study and take our school to nationals.
Lol, I am sure they wouldn’t care, but thanks, you made me feel a bit better about academics.

Any good beginner guitars?

Tags: , ,

Smallestcuz asked:

Recently I decided that I would like to learn how to play the guitar. I don’t really know anyone in my family who can recommend a good guitar. So I need to know which one is a good beginner guitar that has great sound, quality, and most importantly price. Preferably acoustic. Nothing too expensive since I’m only learning so I have a hobby and not seriously wanting to be a musician. However, I also don’t want some cheap guitar that doesn’t sound good and breaks after only a little while. Also if anyone could advise me what I should start off learning and any books or websites that would help me. Do I need any accessories and what not along with the guitar? How do I tune it without an electronic tuner or another instrument to help?

Here are some of my questions concerning learning:
1. How long and often should I practice?
2. When should I be able to see results? A month or two? A year? (I have a good memory so I can remember a lot but my fingers might have trouble since their short and little)
3. What are some ways to soothe sore fingers?
4. If you have any tips or stories of when you were learning. (If you don’t play guitar then any tips on sight reading?)
5. If you could provide where I can buy your recommended guitar, can be music store or online (no ebay).
Any other things I should take into consideration, please feel free to tell me.

Sorry if my question is too long! You don’t have to answer all of my questions, but it would help if you do. Thank you for taking your time to read my question and help out in any way you can! I appreciate all your help! Have a nice day! :)

What You Need To Know About Drum Lessons

Tags:

Maybe it’s the heartbeat inside all of us, but people all over the world, even those who profess to have no musical talent whatsoever, all have some innate understanding of rhythm. Everyone can feel a beat. Drummers usually know this right away, and they’re compelled from an early age to smash whatever’s around them in time, or brush their surroundings (table top, dashboard) with sensitivity like a jazz drummer would with the brushes. If you’re about to learn the drums, here’s what you ought to know.

There isn’t a musical instrument in the world that can be mastered without a lot of practice! But, especially with drums, you’ll need to practice your piece, or your fill, or whatever you’re learning, slowly, before gradually increasing the speed. It’s necessary to get it down perfect, however slow, before you increase the speed. If you increase the speed before you have it down cold, the mistakes will become more evident and sound even sloppier when it gets faster.

As a drummer, it doesn’t matter if your technique is dazzling if you don’t have good time! It’s obvious, but drummers need it. The musicians in your group are depending on you. For this reason, teachers will frequently use a metronome with their students. This will help you do drills slowly and on time, and you can incrementally increase your speed as you improve. Frequently it’s actually harder to play more confusing bits slower, but your teacher will sort this out for you! That’s what he’s for.

At first, you’ll have your hands full keeping the different hands sorted out, and then you’ll have your feet to worry about. It’s true that each drum is a different instrument, with different tones and temperaments, and what you’re doing is learning how to play them all. The drummer’s first job is to learn how to syncopate, which is the act of maintaining a beat while simultaneously hitting against it. This will become easier as you go along, but at first it’ll seem like a mountain that you can never climb. You’ll get there! Psychologically, it’s crucial to understand that this will seem beyond physical possibility, but after practice it gets easier and easier until one day you can kind of do it. The mountain’s peak will be in sight. Remember this going in and hopefully it’ll prevent you from being discouraged off the bat.

Finally, you can expect to be playing along with recordings. Obviously, drums are an accompaniment instrument (unless you’re doing a solo…) and to help keep track of the other aspects of the song it’ll be necessary to play them in the back. With guitar, piano or drum lessons Surrey you can play the bulk of the song yourself. This also helps improve your ability to listen, something all musicians need to do while they’re playing.

If you keep these tips in mind you should be excited to learn a new skill, have some fun, and make some good music! Best of luck.
