Mido asked: What syllables are used in Ireland for sight-reading?
I’m Hungarian, and I applied to a school in Dublin. At home, we have the moveable Do system, and use the solmization syllables Do Re Mi Fa etc…
Do they use different syllables out there? Like, maybe C D E F G etc..? And how do they pronounce semitones like #D bF while singing?
Your answer would be a great help for me!
I can sight-read already, I’d just like to know what syllables to sing on the audition ^^

cwrazien asked: I recently auditioned for a choir and was told by the director that I have perfect pitch (This is a well known choir in my area and the director is a veteran director with an incredible resume and her doctorate and she teaches at a major university) I had to sight read apiece of music (I thought it was a failure, but she said I had this perfect pitch) However, I can’t read music. I understand the basics (EGBDF, FACE, what the notes look like-whole, quarter etc, and I understand the basics of sharps and flats) but I can not look at a piece of music and sing it and tell you what key its in and forget about asking me to count sing!! That will never happen. I understand what the time signature is, but if the quarter note gets the beat…what is the beat? I don’t get that part. So, how can I have perfect pitch if I can’t read music?

pianoplaya88 asked: Hi-
I’ve been taking piano lessons for five years, and the lessons were unconventional…meaning the teacher taught me to play by finger numbers and using my ear before reading sheet music. i can play songs such as bach’s 1st invention and i’m learning grieg’s notturno, but to make a long story short…i SUCK at reading sheet music. my question is, am i behind on my piano abilities…should i be able to do more than i can at this stage? how do i get better at reading sheet music? thanks so much =]
