WIND GAP – BLUEGRASS ACADEMY – CHILDREN

Tags: , ,

slhitchcock asked:

This is a great time for kids and for their parents. If your child would like to participate, it is best to sign up ahead of arrival with the instrument they wish to play. That way, they will have enough instruments at the festival so that each child can have one to use. The academy is in sponsored in June by Harry Grant and the Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival and in August by AFBA association and Festival. Here are the links to each of them: www.windgapbluegrass.com www.afbawindgap.org Instructor for the Bluegrass Academy: Mark Panfil and his brother Chris. Born and raised in Lackawanna, NY (a steel mill town, south of Buffalo), Mark began playing harmonica at age eight. He played songs on his Marine Band that he’d heard on local radio by ear, the way his dad taught him to. He began playing five string banjo at 15 and soon after that formed a local bluegrass group with his brother, Chris called, the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad. When high school finished, he decided to make music his career by pursuing a degree in Music Education with piano as his primary instrument. After graduationg with his BA in Music, he went to work for Young Audiences of Western New York doing school concerts. In college, he began playing chromatic harmonica and added sight-reading music to his harmonica skills. His first Dobro was bought in the early 80′s and he soon joined Creek Bend as their Dobro player. He still plays with them and they have two cd’s available on the Copper Creek record label from

CitationforLife asked:

I have been playing a trumpet for a year now and I have a problem with ear training. I know how to read music and I know what note I play but Im not always sure what the note sounds like. I just ended my first years lesson and I havnt read much music so Im geting back in the cycle of things like remembering the fingerings or witch note it is. But the ear throws me off because I cant sight read if I dont know what the notes sound like. Any suggestions? websites would be best.

how can I improve sight-reading rhythm?

Tags: , ,

Matt asked:

Right now I’m working on a piano piece that has lots of rhythm into it. I’m not very good at all sight-reading rhythm in music pieces. I know how to play the notes in a flash like sight readers know how to but I just don’t know how to put the rhythm together. Sight-reading Rhythm is very confusing for me. How Can I improve my sight-reading rhythm skills? I need very informative help and advice!

thank you – Matt

Tags: , ,

emo boy asked:

i made about 5 mistakes in all
1 i went too fast on my chromatic scale & lost the notes
2 in the high notes i was muted because of my spit valves
3 in the sight reading i didn’t look at the whole thing & i got lost
4 also in the audition sheet i lost beat for a split second & got back
5 in the audition music i got off the beat for a second & then i got back on the beat

those are the mistakes i made
i had to play an audition music that i got in september
i had to play 2 scales (Eb & D) & my chromatic scale
& i had to do some sight reading (i’m not the best sight reader but i can sight read better then my class’s flutes & clarinets & everyone else in the class [small ass band])
will those kind of mistakes get me out

antibandgeek asked:

This is a Violin 1 part and i didnt want to transpose it because then i would have known the rhythm and the notes more. So what i did is i played it directly from the page and it was my first time looking at it. I sight read it, stumbled across it, ran out of breath, but finally finished! it was fun playing it for the first time. Definitely gotta practice this song and learn it! :D I hope you guys like it and don’t mind all the mistakes, bad tone, and other errors :P it’s just sight reading…so i didnt bother to tune lol
