Singing in Music Theory?

Tags: ,

Chrissy asked:

I am planning on taking a music theory class this coming semester, but i did not realize the class would be performance oriented as well.

How much singing do music theory classes usually incorporate, and will I have to sing by myself too?

I am just nervous about the singing because i have never had to sight read music and sing the notes.

How to sight read piano?

Tags: ,

Smiley asked:

I know how to read music (obviously) for several instruments and I take music theory classes! I also compose my own music! However, for piano it takes days for me to learn a song and I see piano players who sit down to an unknown piece and play it from beginning to end without having to stop or learn it line by line! How do they do that? I know you are going to say “practice” which I already do everyday for several hours, but how do you actually get your fingers to follow what your eyes are reading and keep up with it? I always have to look down at my hands then back at the notes, etc. and it is getting frustrating! Help from actual piano experienced people/pianists, please!

How would I go about becoming a music composer?

Tags: ,

watermelon. asked:

The piano would be my instrument of choice. I can also play guitar and violin. Is it possible to be successful in the music industry without pursuing post secondary for it? I am really interested in writing music for movies and videogames. How would I go about doing that?

If college is the best option, what should I expect? I alsolutely hate sight reading and have a hard time doing it. I learn all of my pieces by ear. I can read music too, though, but I never do that anymore.
