I play piano and guitar too, and yes, they’re basically the same. Try taking lessons or getting a book on notes; that way you know what notes you’re playing on the guitar. You don’t have to relearn music, you just have to learn how to play the guitar’s notes (which is pretty easy, after learning keyboard) and you should be able to get started.

    Hope this helps!

As long as you are reading in the Treble clef, it’s exactly like any othe type of music reading, although for guitar solos you’ll find kind of unique notation having to do with tremolo or slides and stuff, although I think there is stuff like slides, “slurs” I believe for like trumpet and trombone.

but yeah, It’s otherwise the same.

I hate tabs! They confuse the heck out of me. And a lot of times they are way off.

I’m not sure about getting sheet music online…..
(Even though I played trumpet in elementary school and did take a classical guitar class, I can’t sight read sheet music to save my life!)
I learn everything by ear, rarely with help from sheet music to tell me the notes, but I can’t interpret the notation !)

but google “free sheet music for guitar” and “sheet music for guitar”

    you’ll find some stuff.
here’s one that I actually learned for my beginning class in classical guitar in Junior college. It’s a pretty simple piece.
    “greensleeves”

For “rock” music and stuff, you can buy music books and single song sheet music at music stores. they usually come in actual sheet music scores rather than tabs. I’m sure you’ll also find stuff online in sheet music as well. But a lot of it you have to pay for. Tabs are usually done by amateurs and posted on Tab sites. the actual sheet music is copyrighted usually, so it harder to get free songs that way.

good luck to you, I’m glad to see someone here that actually wants to do it right!!

it won’t be much of a problem for you because you already play the piano.
when you play the piano, you have to know how to play the treble clef and bass clef and when you play guitar, you only need to know treble clef.

Yes the notation is the same but guitar is played an octave higher . It also usually just uses the treble clef and ledger lines added above & below as needed.
