I’m having a frustrating time trying to get good at this. I’m getting in the routine of reading at least an hour everyday but progress seems really really slow. i have a few months to get pretty decent at reading in order to get into some schools for music.

is there any advice out there that might aid in my daunting venture?
sorry, for guitar

    what instrument?

    piano?
if so it really helps if you find the key in which your in at every cadence in the music
for example if you notice that you’ve just cadenced into the key of D you know that the D major scale has sharps at F and C. knowing this all the note you play will be in this key untill you cadence into another key.
(make sure to know your relative minors. i.e. B relative minor to D.)

practicing scales, arpeggios and cadences for every single major and minor keys is an awesome tool

hope everything works out for you

Keeping up that amount of practice should eventually better you, but I’m working on trying to complete a similar goal and I was considering trying to commit certain notes to memory. For example it’s pretty basic to just be able to sing middle c but my goal is to try to be able to see a note on a staff and no instantly what it sounds like, like I would with a song. So you could try that.

Of course I’m only assuming that you’re talking about voice. If you’re talking about a different instrument…*shrugs*
