I am so nervous for high school?
Susan .S. asked:
I am so nervous for high school. Now you may say everyone is and they’ll get the hang of it , but that is why I am nervous I’m not sure that I will.
It all started in eighth grade when i have decided that i would like to transfer from a private school to a public. I did. although the principal wasn’t to happy and the teachers tried to convince me to do otherwise i still decided to go to a public high school. i felt about especially mine that private schools are more about the religion than the education.
when i went to the orientation i got sort of intimidated, nervous,…these kids all are coming from schools where they actually learned properly. but where i’m coming from i haven’t even learned how to sight read music, or any other extra curricular. most teachers don’t evenknow their own subject that well. i know that high schol will be challenging and difficult… a whole new environment and that is why i’m nervous. i tried to prepare by even doing studying over the summer but i still feel nervous.please if you’ve got any tips … i would really appreciate it thank you.

The good news is highschool is only 4 years! I take it you play an instrument of some sort since you are complaining about not being able to read sight music – this is a relatively easy skill, but know that many wonderful musicians never learned to read sight music. Also know that subject matter taught is subjective, what is important to some is not to others. Your teachers now will make sure you learn what you need to graduate from their school. Just relax, you seem like you have a level head on your shoulders. It’ll be fine.

I came from a small school that was, while public, nothing like a middle school that all the other kids went to. I’m not going to say you will step into high school and get it immediately, but over time you will become more comfortable with the idea of classes, et cetera. If you are worried that you don’t know the skills, make an appointment with the counselor at your school, and look at your schedule, and then try to find a course catalog on your school’s website. It will have descriptions of the classes. If you feel you will be really over-challenged, email the teacher of the class and ask them to tell you more. They may assuage your fears, too. Look at a listing of the clubs or sports your school offers, and join one or 2. It will make it easier to become involved and make friends.
High school may not be ‘the best years of your life’, but they can be really super fun years. I was so nervous moving from a school of 300, K-8, to a school of 1950, 9-12. I am starting 10th, and did pretty good my first year. If by the 2nd week of classes you still feel behind, go talk to your counselor again. They’ll make sure you are okay. They are there to help.
Create a support circle of friends, family, et cetera that you can lean on.
good luck!!

There are going to be a lot of new people and even if you think you are the only one you aren’t!
Try and join a club or try out for a sports team to make friends.

i transfered from a private school to a public school. and trust me public schools are WAY easier. I know exactly what you are thinking.
The other kids all know each other.. i will be left out. my old school we were taught waaay differently, how will i know what they are talking about?
is that what you are thinking?
here is what helped me…
you say they learned how to make a pb and j sandwich by putting the penut butter on frst… you learned how by putting the jelly on first. But it dosent really matter what goes first because in the end it still becomes a GREAT tasting sandwich eaither way
OR
7+2 and 2+7 both equal 9.
I guess what i am trying to say is that you may have learned differently… but as long as you get the right answer, it shouldn’t matter how you were taught it.
I hope that helped and that i just didn’t confuse you.
